Sewing a beautiful dress has to be one of my most satisfying creative endeavors. Getting all of the details as perfect as my limited but expanding sewing skills allow is my favorite kind of fun.
After the zipper is sewn in, all the threads are trimmed, and the dress looks just perfect…it’s time to wear the creation. As a mom of two little ones, I often don’t have time to change out of my cherished me-made creations to do dishes, cook food, and all of my other chores.
This is where aprons come in handy. A good, long apron is perfect for covering up the midi and maxi dresses that all the modern prairie gals are wearing these days.
If you’ve explored the Instagram sewing and vintage communities, you’ve noticed that pinafore aprons and dresses are back in style in a big way. Women are dressed up like modern 1970s commune hippies and it’s so pretty!
A quick trip down the vintage sewing pattern rabbit hole reveals a bunch of pretty vintage pinafore apron patterns. Pinafores are a great way to add pattern or ruffle to an otherwise plain outfit while protecting a cherished dress. And they are so fun to make!
I am just starting to work on the McCall’s 2925 apron View A – with the ruffles, of course! I found the pattern at a thrift store a few months ago and I think #MeMadeMay is the perfect time to sew it up!
Have you made any pinafore aprons? What is your favorite pattern to use? Let me know in the comment section below.
